ABOUT ME

Laura Ashley Lord (October 30, 1985) is an American poet, novelist and short story writer. Born in Easton, Maryland, she studied literature and creative writing at Chesapeake College, Washington College, and Southern New Hampshire University. She published her first book, Wake Up a Woman during her time at Washington College. While at Southern New Hampshire University, Lord published History of a Woman. She gave birth to two children: her daughter in 2005 and her son in 2008. Lord just celebrated her marriage to Marshall Koeneman and lives with her family on the Eastern Shore of Maryland.

Lord's first book, Wake Up a Woman (2012), deals with personal struggles and issues she faced as a young woman. Her stories are told in such a manner as to put the reader directly into the scene. Any names, dates, or specific information is withheld, making the stories applicable to young women as a whole. History of a Woman (2013) also focuses on aspects of life and culture, with an emphasis on women. Lord argues throughout the piece that women are not only forced into submission by the males in their life, but more so by women and the cultural and moral "cookie-cutter" idea women accept. The Telling (2013) is a collection dedicated to women who found the courage to admit their shortcomings, find laughter in their secrets, and to lift the veil on past shames.

Currently, Lord is working on a children's book, featuring her son's favorite character Boo Bear, and a sex education book for young women. She has worked with other authors, collaborating work and editing manuscripts, yet spends most of her time with her family (or writing about them on her blog).
